Elite Goalkeeper Program

STATE DEVELOPMENT GOALKEEPING / SASI PATHWAY

U12 State Development (12 GK’s)

These Goalkeepers are identified from open trials held over the Easter period. The Goalkeepers receive 1 weekly Goalkeeper coaching session and take part in the July STIC and summer series.

Skillaroo (6 GK’s)

The Skillaroo Goalkeepers are selected from the previous years under 12 STIC and summer series programs. The Goalkeepers receive 2 weekly Goalkeeping sessions and play regular matches with the skillaroos against JPL under 14 teams. They are also part of July STIC. Two Goalkeepers are selected from the group to represent South Australia at the October Nationals in Coffs Harbor.

U14 State Development (4 GK’s)

These Goalkeepers are identified from the Skillaroo program and open trials held in the January school holidays. The Goalkeepers receive at least 2 weekly Goalkeeping sessions and regularly train alongside the SASI Goalkeepers. They play matches with the u14 development squad against u15/u16 teams from the JPL. Two Goalkeepers are selected from the group to represent South Australia at the October Nationals in Coffs Harbor. This is an opportunity to be identified for National representation.

U15 Training Squad

These Goalkeepers are identified from the u14 program and open trials held in the January school holidays. There is no longer a National ID competition for this age group.  The aim of this squad is to provide coaching to Goalkeepers that didn’t achieve a SASI Scholarship but may have the potential to play at a high standard.

South Australian Sports Institute

These Goalkeepers are identified from the u14 program. Goalkeepers from outside the FFSA Elite pathway may be selected after a trial period.

To allow the SASI Goalkeepers to achieve valuable game time they are dual registered and continue to play for their club (19’s or above). They also play midweek in the Super League Reserves competition.  In December/January the Goalkeepers represent South Australia at the FFA Institute challenge, held at the AIS in Canberra. This is an opportunity to be identified for National representation.

U18 Training Squad

Goalkeepers are invited in January to trial to be part of this squad. The objective is to provide ongoing coaching to Youth aged Goalkeepers who have been part of or missed out on previous State squads.  This program aims to provide an opportunity to play at the highest level within the State, American College system or in the lower leagues of Europe and Asia.

The progress of the Goalkeepers that missed on the State Development Goalkeeping program is reviewed throughout the season. If club coaches know of talented Goalkeepers that are not part of the Elite pathway then they should contact the FFSA Goalkeeping Manager.
