After a successful campaign at the Craig Foster International Cup for our State Futsal teams, an impressive 5 out of 11 teams have been invited to the World Futsal Championships being held in Orlando, Florida from 21-25 July 2018.

The renowned competition will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and to top it off the championships are at Walt Disney World!

The 2014 World Championships were featured on ESPN SportsCentre and is the largest youth international Futsal tournament with the recent event hosting 89 teams representing 8 countries.

FFSA took 11 teams to the Craig Foster International Futsal Cup for the first time with all teams delivering first class results throughout the competition. An impressive 8 out of 11 teams reached the semi finals, the U12 girls narrowly missed out 3-4 to Gold Coast South, U13 Boys went down 5-1 to eventual winners Gold Coast and the U16 boys were defeated 4-2 by Brisbane Elite.

The U14 Boys, U14 Girls and U16 Girls each battled tough opposition heartbreakingly being defeated in the Grand Final, the U11 Boys convincingly defeated Melbourne Dragons 7-3 and the U15 Boys also came out on top over Melbourne Dragons for both teams to claim the Championship.

FFSA’s Head of Game Development was thrilled with the standard of the tournament and the achievements of all teams;

“The Craig Foster Tournament proved to be everything we wanted it to be, great organisation, fantastic facilities, competitive competition and a pathway onto the World Stage in Orlando.

John Mundy emphasised the pathway opportunity provided through the tournament allowing players to compete on the World Stage against first class opponents;

“For FFSA to have five teams qualifying for the worlds biggest youth Futsal tournament, has been a magnificent achievement to all involved. Bring on Santos and Barcelona, we look forward to the challenge”.

FFSA would like to congratulate all players and officials on their outstanding efforts in the lead up and during the tournament.
