Football Federation SA & Bedford announce new partnership and the launch of a new disability league

Media Release February 22 2019

BEDFORD TO SPONSOR NEW SOCCER LEAGUE

Mark, Grant, Vincent and the Kinross twins love to play soccer.

Until now, the Bedford employees’ main outlet to compete was the end-of-year soccer tournament for people with disability, The Phoenix Cup.

However, that limited participation is about to change thanks to a new partnership struck between the Football Federation of South Australia (FFSA) and Bedford.

The two organisations have joined forces to create a disability soccer league for SA. FFSA CEO Michael Carter says his peak soccer body will collaborate with Bedford over the next three years to establish a series of programs, tournaments and events for a number of disability service providers.

Our vision is to be the sport of choice for South Australians. Our partnership with the Bedford Group will ensure that we can welcome a new wave of participants to the game. A mass participation event will be held at the VALO Football Centre at Angle Park on Monday the 11th of March to drive participation in the in the regular competition. We look forward to a great event.”

Mr. Carter said Bedford’s Chief Executive Maggie Dowling said this exciting new league will provide a strong foundation for growing soccer in the state.

Ms Dowling said,

We all know about the value of sport in our lives. It brings people together people from all walks of life and is so important for many of our 1500 clients – some of whom compete in the Special Olympics or Paralympics,”
