The 2018 FFSA Junior Cup Finals will be held this weekend at the VALO Football Centre – The Parks. Three out of the four shadow referees from the National Premier League (NPL) Grand Finals at Coopers Stadium will be officiating on Sunday, giving them an opportunity to apply what they experienced on the Grand Finals as shadow referees.
Across the Cup Finals on Sunday, six first-year referees have been appointed. These appointments show the depth and quality of young officials that South Australia has as well as the importance of the Referee Mentor scheme and training that match officials attend twice-weekly.
William Heinrich, who was the State League 1 Grand Final shadow referee, will be refereeing the Under 12 Cup Final. This is Heinrich’s first Cup Final as a referee. He will be assisted by 2018 ‘FFSA Community Referee of the Year’ Arseniye Somuncic and Jack Jackson, with Liam Toovey appointed as the 4th Official.
2018 ‘FFSA Best First Year Referee’ Jayden Betterman has been appointed to officiate the Under 13 Cup Final. Betterman, who was shadow referee on the NPL Grand Final, has shown great potential during his first season as a referee. His Assistant Referees are State League 2 Grand Final shadow referee Ethan Menadue and Cristian Quirino, with Luke Mitchell acting as 4th Official.
The Under 14 Cup Final will be officiated by Ben Bowden, from Noarlunga & Districts Referee Association. Ben has refereed over 500 matches and has officiated regularly on NPL Under 18’s and Reserves this season. Denis Palushaj and Robin Currie will be his assistant referees, with Francesco Bria his 4th Official.
Andrew Citti will take charge of the Under 15 Cup Final. Andrew has taken charge of over 250 games, officiating many junior matches as well as NPL Under 18’s. Assisting Citti will be Sean Langmaid-Taylor and Cameron Gardener, along with 4th Official Aleksandar Jerkovic.
The Under 16 Cup Final will be refereed by Torin Cooper, who has also officiated over 250 matches. Cooper was selected on the Elite Assistant Referee Panel for 2018, regularly officiating senior football whilst further developing his skills as an Assistant Referee during the season. The Assistant Referees appointed to this match are Cole Davy and James Martin, with Harold Spanner the 4th Official.
The final match of the day, the Under 17 Cup Final between Campbelltown City and Modbury Jets, will be officiated by Adelaide Hills Referee Branch match official Ian Crossing. He has officiated just over 200 games and also acts as a mentor for younger referees. Crossing will be supported by Assistant Referees Riley Cowan and Thomas Temby, and 4th Official Daniel Bryant.
Congratulations to all match officials on their appointments and best of luck on Sunday.
